Join us for Wise Words Senior's Week!  Comprised of 2 Writing Prompt Serenades, 1 Memoir Workshop & an Open Mic!

As part of our Wise Words Program, we are taking this week to celebrate our Seniors!  The week ends fittingly on October 1st, which is National Seniors Day in Canada.

Wise Words is a unique writing and communication initiative for Seniors in all corners of our lovely province.  This program is Funded by the Government of Canada's New Horizons for Seniors Program.

Our week-long event will be celebrated by hosted 4 fabulous sessions on:

September 27th. 28th, 29th, and Oct 1st  all at 1pm.

September 27th at 1pm - Writing Prompt Serenade, with Andrew Sims

Join us for an hour of writing to piano music by Andrew Sims.  At the start of the session our host Cristy Watson will share a handful of writing prompts before introducing and handing the session over to Andrew.  While he plays, we can write to the prompts or your own projects and/or just enjoy the music.

September 28th at 1pm - Writing from the Heart, with Ruth Kozak

Writing memoirs of any kind: You are crafting something toward a work of art and you want to engage your readers. Memoirs deal with emotional truths. Writing a memoir is a journey into yourself. The memoir isn’t necessarily about you. (Don’t let ‘ego’ slip into ‘egotism’.) You will be present but not always writing about yourself.

September 29th at 1pm - Writing Prompt Serenade, with Andrew Sims

Join us for an hour of writing to piano music by Andrew Sims.  At the start of the session our host Cristy Watson will share a handful of writing prompts before introducing and handing the session over to Andrew.  While he plays, we can write to the prompts or your own projects and/or just enjoy the music.

September 30th - No session in honour of The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Please watch our Facebook page that day for some great reading recommendations: https://www.facebook.com/bcwriters.

October 1st - Open Mic with Cristy Watson - Time to Share YOUR Stories
*This event is 90 minutes long (longer than our other 1 hour sessions)

By now you may have attended one or all of our Wise Words sessions.  We have shared, discussed, and had a few laughs together while addressing topics important to us.  Many of these sessions have included inspirational writing prompts.  Why not read one of your pieces at our open mic?  We have twenty, 3 minute time slots where you can share a piece with us, and your thoughts on the piece.  In order to have twenty folks share, we have to strictly adhere to the timing, so please practice your piece so that you know you can make it under the 3 minuted allotted.

How to sign up to speak?  Email Cristy Watson cristy@bcwriters.ca

We will also allow registrants to sign in 15 minutes early and ask to be placed on a back up list.  This is not guaranteed, so if you are sure you would like to speak, do not delay and get your name on the list as soon as possible.

You can register here (scroll up and click the blue register button to get started) and a link will be sent to you that you can use for the week. When it's time for the event, click on the link to join the live Zoom event. Looking forward to seeing you there!
