About Me - A bio for the membership profile
I am Leila Sadeghi, an Iranian-Canadian fiction writer and poet, sculpting narratives that meander through the cultural tapestries of my homeland and the awe-inspiring landscapes of North Vancouver, British Columbia, my cherished home. Born in 1977, I proudly stand at the forefront of the experiential creative writing movement in Iran, seamlessly intertwining the vibrant threads of my heritage with the diverse influences of my Canadian surroundings.
With dual Bachelor's degrees in Persian Literature and English Translation, alongside a Master's in Linguistics, I immerse myself in the intricate dance of language and storytelling. My intellectual journey led me to a Ph.D. in the Cognitive Linguistics Program at the University of Tehran, cementing my dedication to unraveling the intricate relationship between language and cognition. Beyond academia, my reflections on language and literature find resonance in esteemed journals both in Iran (in Persian) and abroad (in English).
A versatile translator, I have bridged literary realms by bringing forth both fictional and non-fictional works into Persian. Now nestled in the picturesque landscapes of North Vancouver, I have embraced a new linguistic frontier, giving voice to my creativity in English.
At this very moment, I am ardently crafting my latest novel, eagerly anticipating its debut on the English literary stage. My writing is a harmonious fusion of Iranian heritage and Canadian experiences, inviting readers into a world where language serves as a bridge between cultures and a canvas for exploring the profound depths of the human experience. I extend an invitation to join me on this literary journey, as together we explore stories that transcend borders and resonate with the universal threads of humanity.
