Our membership and participants span writers just starting their careers or hobbies, people recognized as being at the forefront of Canadian Literature, and everyone in between. We cross genres, practices, incomes, and so much more, with the hope of helping people in our community reach their unique writing milestones. We work hard to listen to our own members and the greater writing community when we plan events and programming. When we hear folks are struggling in areas like publication, editing, or marketing, we respond by finding professionals who are thriving in those areas to help share their advice and guidance through workshops, readings, and more. At the Federation of BC Writers, we believe that our members are our core. They are a group of people passionate about writing, whether professionally or for personal satisfaction. We receive significant funding from many other wonderful organizations, sponsors, government agencies and councils, but our greatest economic stability comes from our members. Dues are invested back into our community and are used predominantly to pay for our staff and our presenters. We try to repay our members by providing as much free programming as possible, with as few barriers as possible. When there are program costs, we offer members significant discounts. We also maintain specific member benefits, like a print copy of our magazine, access to programs like our contest bank, and the ability to join our writing circles which are online writing groups dedicated to specific interests and genre. |
