ABOUT THE SESSIONS:

Raise your voice for the arts!

Turn your passion for the arts into affecting real change. Together, we can advocate for the arts and make a difference in our community.

Join us for two free sessions aimed at helping writers articulate the social, economic and health benefits of the arts, and especially the literary arts. While these two sessions precede the provincial election on October 19, and a federal one yet to be announced, their usefulness will far exceed the political realm. Rather than just having a single outcome, such as writing letters to the editor calling for increased arts funding, the sessions will have a broader reach and influence aimed at building awareness and educating the public about the critical importance and value of the arts.

While there is no charge for these workshops, we welcome donations in support of our work advocating on behalf of our literary community.

DATES AND TIMES:

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 10

Session 1: 10 AM - 11 AM

Building powerful letters to the editor that hit their mark, with Katherine (KT) Wagner

In this workshop, led by KT Wagner, we’ll explore how to craft succinct and resonant testimonial letters in support of the literary arts. KT’s session will help writers draft compelling micro stories using flash writing. Through brainstorming together and an opportunity to write, she'll help you harness your content for maximum impact.

Session 2: 1 PM - 2 PM

Writing & delivering meaningful messages that influence and inspire change, with Doni Eve

In this workshop,  Doni will provide ideas on how to effectively employ the power of the written word in ways that resonate with the public as well as political leaders. She’ll provide an overview of the current political landscape, brainstorm ways to get your story across, and help you write a compelling message (with feedback for those who are interested).

Bios:

Katherine (KT) Wagner has a long history of community involvement, including nine years as an elected school trustee, chairing the Mayor's Open Government Task Force, organizing Golden Ears Writers, sitting on various non-profit boards, and advocating tirelessly for literacy education. Currently, she’s president of the FBCW. She holds a certificate from BCIT in public relations and graduated from SFU’s Writers Studio in 2015. Citizen Ink was her op/ed column for the Maple Ridge News. Previously, she penned Education Watch for the Times.

Doni Eve is an award-winning author based on Vancouver Island, writing and presenting workshops as DK Eve. Her other experience includes journalism, advocacy, marketing, governance, and being on the government side of designing and reviewing funding programs and making recommendations to politicians.

Digital doors open 5 minutes prior to the posted workshop times.
