PAC: Political Action Committee Meeting

With both municipal and provincial elections underway, we are calling on members and friends of the Federation of BC Writers to help us draft advocacy materials. Our goal is to create messaging that helps members and friends in the literary community (and beyond) to make the case for increased arts spending.

This committee is ad-hoc, meaning it is not an ongoing committee. We will meet twice over the course of a week to create our messaging and get it out as quickly as possible.

Key Information

  • Messaging needs to be positive in nature
  • We are advocating for greater funding for the literary arts by increasing the total pot of available funds, not by reducing the funding to our colleagues working in other art forms.
  • Our messaging needs to resonate with the general public and politicians, not just those that already understand why the arts are important.
  • These are working meetings, which means our goal is to draft messaging while we are together. We can use breakout rooms if we have significant turnout.
  • While this is a two meeting total committee, if there is interest, we can revisit it and make it a standing committee within the organization after we manage the current opportunity.
  • The first meeting will run for one to one and a half hours on Thursday Oct 1st and the second meeting will be on Wednesday October 7th.
  • Notes will be shared with all registrants between the two meetings.
  • Registration covers both meetings; if you can only make it to one of the dates, please register regardless.
  • We will use the same Zoom link for both meetings.
