Workshop/Event Description

On St. Patrick’s Day, we’re hosting a writers’ ceilidh: a celebration of warm company, good craic, and shared storytelling.

In this 90-minute write-along workshop, we’ll borrow three classic conceits from Irish storytelling--Bindings, Borders, and Bread--and put them to work on the page.

Bindings are the vows and geasa that make a story move: the rule your character, narrator, or speaker cannot break without facing dire consequences.

Borders represent thin places and threshold-crossings, where worlds shift and choices sharpen.

And Bread signifies the stranger’s welcome--the test of hospitality, both given and received, which reveals character and determines the shape of the events that follow.

After politely recruiting the Fair Folk to keep your inner critic occupied while you draft, we'll write in brisk, guided sprints applicable to fiction, memoir, and poetry. We’ll end with a sharing circle for anyone who’d like to read a short excerpt. Come for the craft, stay for the camaraderie, and leave with fresh pages and reusable prompts you can return to again and again.

Libations--green or otherwise!--optional.

Intended Audience:

Writers of any skill level
