Join us for a Writer's Day Out in Victoria! This event is free and open to the public. This is a special event put on by the Federation of BC Writers and showcases the amazing talent of authors Ruth DyckFehderau and Frances Peck. SHEDULE & ACTIVITY DESCRIPTIONS 10AM to 3PM - Book FairJoin us for a community book fair and pick up that special something for holiday gifts while supporting local artists. The book fair is open to writers in any genre and from any method of publication. Book Your Space at the Book Fair 10AM to 5PM - Writing Space with Coffee, Tea, and SnacksOur coffee and tea hospitality space will be open. Pop by and grab some free refreshments while taking in the activities of the day. Tables will be set up for those inspired to write to work on their craft. Donations are welcome. 10AM to 5PM - Author Photo DayWe are so excited to present Author Photo Day to artists from Vancouver Island. All are welcome to register for this activity. (This is a paid service.) Registrants will receive 4 photos that have been professionally touched up by our photographer. 1:00PM to 2:30PM - Live Prose Feedback with Dr. Ruth DyckFehderau and Frances PeckDr. Ruth DyckFehderau and Author Frances Peck will be on hand to help you with sentence-level prose feedback. Participants will submit a sample and we will get through as many as possible in the hour and a half. This is a free event that will be educational, insightful, and fun. As an added bonus, our featured readers will be able to provide support to fellow writers. To participate, submit a fiction or creative nonfiction piece of no longer than 1 page. Excerpts from longer works are welcome. Ruth DyckFehderau's I (Athena) and Frances Peck's Uncontrolled Flight are bound to amaze you. Both of our speakers are spectacular writers and engaging readers. Q&A and signing to follow. | OUR SPECIAL GUESTSRuth DyckFehderau Ruth has written three books. I (Athena) was released by NeWest Press in April, 2023. E nâtamukw miyeyimuwin: Residential School Recovery Stories of the James Bay Cree, Volume One, nonfiction, written with James Bay Cree storytellers, was released in March, 2023. The Sweet Bloods of Eeyou Istchee: Stories of Diabetes and the James Bay Cree (2017), nonfiction, also written with James Bay Cree storytellers, is now in Second Edition (2020) and is being translated into five languages. Ruth sometimes teaches Creative Writing and English Lit at the University of Alberta where she is an Adjunct Professor. She has received many awards for writing and for teaching, and a few for activism. She lives in Edmonton with her partner. She is hearing-impaired. Frances Peck Frances Peck is a long-time editor, ghostwriter, and instructor of writing and editing courses. Her debut novel, The Broken Places, was a Globe and Mail best book of 2022 and a finalist for the Rakuten Kobo Emerging Writer Prize.
